Acceptance

The drive was quiet.

Too quiet.

The city lights blurred past the car windows, but inside, not a single word was spoken. The tension from the earlier revelation still lingered, unspoken yet heavy.

Noor sat in the corner of the backseat, her hands folded tightly in her lap, her eyes fixed on nothing in particular. The bridal jewelry felt heavier now, almost suffocating.

Beside her, Rivan sat still.

Calm. Composed. Silent.

He hadn’t said a word since they left.

Not to his parents.

Not to his siblings.

And definitely not to her.

And somehow… that silence felt more distant than anger.

The Ranawat mansion stood tall, illuminated against the night.

Grand. Imposing. Unfamiliar.

Noor’s breath hitched slightly as the car came to a stop.

This… was her new home.

A place she had never imagined entering.

A place she didn’t know how to belong to.

The car doors opened one by one.

Mahendra stepped out first, followed by Kavita,Niharika,Akash,Aryan and Kabir moved quietly, while Aadhya lingered for a moment, her gaze briefly shifting toward Noor.

“Come,” Kavita said gently, her tone noticeably softer than before.

Noor hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then she stepped out,in her bridal heavy attire.

The entrance was already prepared.

Lights. Decorations. Ritual plates.

Everything was ready to welcome the bride.

The expected bride.

For a moment, Kavita’s hand stilled near the aarti plate.

Just for a moment.

Then she took a quiet breath… and continued.

Because whatever had happened—

this girl standing at the doorstep was now part of their family.

“Bring the kalash,” Savitri Devi’s voice echoed from inside.

Firm. Commanding. Unquestionable.

Noor’s eyes flickered up briefly.

The matriarch stood there, observing everything with sharp, experienced eyes.

Nothing escaped her.

The ritual began.

Kavita performed the aarti, her movements steady, controlled.

Noor stood still, her heart racing.

“Gently,” Aadhya murmured from beside her, almost too softly for anyone else to hear.

“Kick the kalash slowly.”

Noor gave a faint nod.

Her foot moved hesitantly, touching the small pot and tipping it forward. The rice spilled across the marble floor, marking her entry.

A new beginning.

Or something like it.

As Noor stepped inside, her footprints marked the white floor in red.

A symbol of arrival.

Of belonging.

Even if she didn’t feel it yet.

“Take her to the room,” Kavita instructed one of the house helps, then paused.

Her gaze shifted to Noor again.

“You must be tired.”

It wasn’t warmth.

But it wasn’t cold either.

Something in between.

Something… careful.

Noor nodded slightly.

Words felt too heavy right now.

“Bhabhi,” Kabir spoke suddenly, a small, easy smile playing on his lips, “welcome home.”

The word bhabhi felt unfamiliar.

Strange.

But not harsh.

Aryan gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.

Aadhya offered a faint, reassuring look.

And Savitri Devi—

she simply observed.

Measuring.

Understanding.

Accepting.

In her own way.

Only one person remained unchanged.

Rivan.

He stood slightly apart from everyone else.

Unmoved.

Unreadable.

His gaze briefly passed over Noor—

not lingering.

Not reacting.

Just… noticing.

And then he looked away.

No accusations.

No questions.

No comfort.

Nothing.

Noor felt something tighten in her chest.

She didn’t know why.

Maybe because a part of her had expected anger.

Or rejection.

Or anything that would make this easier to understand.

But this—

this silence—

was something she didn’t know how to face.

“Rivan,” Mahendra called.

He turned slightly.

“Take her upstairs.”

A simple instruction.

Nothing more.

For a second, Rivan didn’t move.

Then, without a word, he turned and walked toward the staircase.

Noor hesitated.

Then followed.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

The house was too big.

Too quiet.

Too unfamiliar.

And the man walking ahead of her—

felt like someone she couldn’t reach.

He stopped outside a room.

Opened the door.

Stepped aside.

A silent gesture.

Noor paused at the doorway.

Then slowly stepped inside.

The room was spacious. Elegant. Cold.

Just like him.

She turned slightly, unsure if she should say something.

Anything.

But the words stayed trapped.

Rivan remained at the door.

For a moment, he looked at her.

Properly.

Without interruption.

Without distraction.

Just… her.

And then—

he spoke.

“Get some rest.”

That was it.

No questions.

No explanations.

No emotions.

And before Noor could respond—

he walked away.

The door remained slightly open.

The silence returned.

Noor stood there for a long moment.

Alone.

In a room that wasn’t hers.

In a life she didn’t choose.

With a husband who hadn’t accepted her—

but hadn’t rejected her either.

She slowly sat down on the edge of the bed, her hands resting in her lap.

Her heart still felt heavy.

But strangely…

not as broken as she had expected.

Because somewhere between all the chaos—

no one had blamed her.

No one had humiliated her.

No one had pushed her away.

And him—

the one who had every right to react—

had said nothing at all.

No anger.

No harshness.

No cruelty.

Just silence.

And for Noor—

that silence was both a relief…

and the beginning of something she didn’t yet understand.

The room felt unfamiliar.

Too quiet. Too perfect.

Noor sat at the edge of the bed, her fingers lightly gripping the fabric of her lehenga, unsure of what she was supposed to do next.

Everything had happened too fast.

The wedding.

The truth.

The silence.

And now… this.

A room that belonged to someone else.

A life that didn’t feel like hers.

A soft knock broke her thoughts.

Noor looked up, startled.

Before she could respond, the door opened slightly.

Aadhya stepped in.

Her presence was calm. Steady.

Different from everyone else.

“I thought you might need help,” she said gently, her eyes briefly scanning Noor’s heavy bridal attire.

Noor nodded faintly.

Words still felt distant.

Aadhya walked closer, her movements unhurried.

“Sit comfortably bhabhi” she said, picking up a set of clothes from the side. “You’ll feel better once you change.”

Noor hesitated for a second, then adjusted slightly.

Aadhya didn’t rush her.

Didn’t question her.

Just… helped.

Quietly.

“Don’t worry,” Aadhya added after a moment, her voice soft but certain. “No one here blames you.”

Noor’s fingers stilled.

Her eyes lifted slightly.

Aadhya met her gaze.

And for the first time since everything began—

Noor felt something shift.

A small… unfamiliar comfort.

Once Noor had changed into a deep red saree, the heaviness of the bridal attire finally lifted—at least physically.

Emotionally… everything was still the same.

“Come downstairs,” Aadhya said gently. “Everyone’s there.”

Noor nodded.

Her steps were slow.

Careful.

As if she was afraid of doing something wrong.

The living area was calm, but not relaxed.

Everyone was present.

Mahendra. Kavita.Akash,Niharika,Aryan. Kabir. Savitri Devi.

And Rivan.

Noor stopped at the edge of the room, looking beautiful and divine in the saree and with her nupital chain resting on her neck.

For a second, no one spoke, just adored her.

Then Kavita gestured softly.

“Come sit.”

Noor moved forward quietly and sat where indicated, her hands folding in her lap again.

"You are looking beautiful beta.." Niharika said, buy noor was too afraid to say something.

Savitri Devi’s gaze rested on her.

Sharp. Observing.

Not unkind.

But not soft either.

“You are Noor,” she said.

It wasn’t a question.

Noor nodded faintly.

“Yes… Dadi.”

Her voice was barely audible.

A brief silence followed.

Then Savitri Devi spoke again.

“What happened was not done by you.”

Simple words.

Clear.

Final.

Noor blinked softly.

She hadn’t expected that.

Kavita sighed quietly, her expression calmer now.

“What your family did was wrong,” she said, her tone controlled. “But we are not here to punish you for it.”

"Noor, you are a responsible, calm and kind girl, and we all have seen that when you are with tanya during pre wedding rituals." Kavita said

"And we were just shocked by the betrayel of your parents. They could have told us that tanya has ran away, we had accepted. But bina bataye unhone hamare vishvas ko dhoka diya hai..jo hame bardasht nhi tha. Lekin aap..bohot sundar, responsible and calm hai noor, aur ham sab aapko apne ghar ki bahu manenge kyunki ham sab ko aapse koi shikayat nhi hai.." Savitri said, giving a bright smile.

Mahendra nodded once and said,

"Ji noor beta,we don't have any problem with you..so don't be afraid, you are a part of our family now and the wife of Rivaan Singh Ranawat"

Kabir leaned back slightly, glancing at Noor.

“Relax, bhabhi” he said casually. “You look like you’re about to faint.”

Aryan shot him a look.

Kabir shrugged.

“What? I’m just saying.”

Aadhya moved to sit beside Noor.

Her presence grounding.

“And you,” Mahendra’s voice turned toward Rivan.

Everyone’s attention shifted.

“You have nothing to say?”

Rivan stood near the window, still in his sherwani.

Hands in his pockets.

Gaze distant.

For a moment, he didn’t respond.

Then slowly, he turned.

His eyes moved across the room—

before settling on Noor.

There was no anger.

No softness.

Just… calm observation.

“No,” he said finally.

One word.

Nothing more.

The room fell quiet again.

Mahendra studied him for a second.

Then gave a slight nod.

As if accepting that answer.

Noor’s fingers tightened slightly.

She didn’t know why—

but that one word stayed with her.

No accusations.

No questions.

No rejection.

Just silence.

“Go rest,” Kavita said gently after a moment, looking at Noor. “It has been a long day.”

Noor nodded immediately.

Standing up carefully.

As she turned to leave, her steps paused for just a second.

Not because someone stopped her.

But because she felt it.

His gaze.

Rivan was looking at her again.

Not intensely.

Not obviously.

But enough.

And before she could understand it—

he looked away.

Noor walked back to the room slowly.

Her mind quieter than before.

But not settled.

Because everything around her was changing.

Too fast.

Too unexpectedly.

And in the middle of it all—

there was one thing she couldn’t understand.

Why was he so silent?

Because his silence didn’t feel empty.

It felt like something waiting.

And Noor didn’t know…

what would happen when that silence finally broke.

After some time..

The night had settled in completely. The house was quiet now—too quiet.

Noor sat on the edge of the bed, her hands resting in her lap, her gaze fixed on the floor. She hadn’t moved much since she came back to the room. She didn’t know what to do, didn’t know what was expected of her.

Everything felt unfamiliar—the walls, the silence, even the air.

She glanced at the door once, then looked away. He hadn’t come back.

A strange feeling settled in her chest. Not disappointment, not exactly… just something she couldn’t name.

Minutes passed. Or maybe longer. She didn’t know.

The soft sound of the door opening broke the silence.

Noor stiffened instantly, her fingers curling into the fabric of her pallu.

Rivan stepped inside, calm, composed, unreadable—just like always. He closed the door quietly, without making unnecessary noise.

Noor immediately stood up, instinctively, her gaze lowering.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.

Rivan walked past her, his movements steady and controlled, as if nothing about this situation was unusual. He stopped near the table, placed his watch aside, and loosened his cuffs slightly.

Noor remained where she was—still, unsure.

The silence stretched again.

“You can sit.”

His voice finally broke it. Calm. Flat.

Noor blinked slightly, then slowly sat back down.

Rivan didn’t look at her immediately. He took his time, as if choosing his words—or deciding whether to speak at all.

Finally, he turned. His gaze met hers, but he stood frozen for a moment at the sight. She was looking Divine, beautiful, Gajra in hair, red lips, red saree and all,she was looking breathtaking. But pushing those thoughts aside,he said,

“You don’t have to stand every time I enter the room.”

The words were simple. Unexpected.

Noor’s fingers tightened slightly. “…okay,” she whispered.

Another pause settled between them.

Rivan studied her briefly—not harshly, not softly. Just observing.

“You haven’t eaten.”

It wasn’t a question.

Noor hesitated. “I’m not… hungry.”

A faint pause.

“You should eat.”

Same tone. Same calm authority.

Noor nodded slightly. She didn’t argue, but she didn't want to eat.

Silence returned, but this time it felt different—less sharp, less suffocating.

Rivan moved toward the chair near the window and sat down, maintaining distance.

For a while, nothing happened.

Noor’s eyes drifted down to her hands again, her thoughts tangled and unclear.

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

The question came suddenly.

Noor looked up, startled. Her gaze met his.

“At the house,” he clarified. “When they were speaking.”

She swallowed, her throat dry. “I… didn’t think it would matter.”

Honest. Simple.

Rivan’s expression didn’t change, but something in his gaze shifted.

“You could have refused.”

Noor shook her head faintly. “No.”

Just one word. But it carried weight.

Rivan leaned back slightly in his chair, his eyes still on her.

“You always do what you’re told?”

Noor didn’t answer immediately. Her fingers tightened again.

“…ye...yes.”

Another pause followed.

Not judgment. Not approval. Just silence.

Rivan looked away first, his gaze shifting toward the window. Outside, the city lights flickered in the distance, unaware of anything happening inside.

“You can take the bed.”

His voice broke the quiet again.

Noor blinked. “What about you?” The question slipped out before she could stop herself.

Rivan didn’t react. “I’ll manage.”

No explanation. No discussion.

Noor nodded slowly.

He stood up after a moment and moved to the other side of the room, on the couch, maintaining the same distance.

Noor lay down carefully, her movements hesitant. The unfamiliar bed felt strange beneath her.

She turned slightly, facing away.

The lights dimmed. The room fell quiet again.

But sleep didn’t come easily.

Her mind was too full. Too restless.

And behind her, she could still feel it—his presence. Silent. Distant. But there.

For the first time since everything happened, Noor realized something.

He hadn’t blamed her. He hadn’t questioned her harshly. He hadn’t made her feel unwanted.

But he hadn’t accepted her either.

He was just… there.

And somehow, that felt harder to understand than anything else.

Across the room, Rivan stood near the window again, his gaze distant.

His mind wasn’t quiet.

Her words echoed.

I didn’t think it would matter.

No.

Yes.

Simple answers. But not simple meanings.

He exhaled slowly.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. None of it.

And yet… here they were.

Married. Bound. Strangers.

Because, when tanya's wedding rituals were getting done, sunita didn't let Noor go outside much, only in important situations.she didn't even let her meet Ranawats properly, that's why Noor stayed in her room only, and she didn't met everyone properly.

His gaze shifted slightly toward the bed.

She had already closed her eyes. Or at least… pretended to.

Rivan looked away again.

Silence settled once more.

But this time, it didn’t feel empty.

It felt like the beginning of something neither of them understood yet.

And maybe… something neither of them would be able to ignore for long.

_______

Morning arrived quietly.

Soft light filtered through the curtains, spreading across the room in a calm, golden glow. It felt peaceful—almost too peaceful for everything that had changed overnight.

Noor’s eyes fluttered open slowly.

For a moment, she didn’t move.

She simply stared at the unfamiliar ceiling, her mind blank, as if trying to understand where she was.

Then it all came rushing back.

The wedding.

The truth.

The house.

Him.

Her fingers tightened slightly over the bedsheet.

This was real.

She sat up slowly, careful not to make any noise. Her gaze instinctively shifted across the room.

Rivan wasn’t there.

The other side of the room, the couvh looked untouched, just as it had been last night.

A small breath escaped her. She didn’t know why—but she felt slightly lighter.

Downstairs, the house was already awake.

Voices echoed faintly. The clinking of utensils. The rhythm of a home that functioned on routine.

She quickly reached for her suitcase, picked out a dark pink saree, took bath and got ready. As she was filling her hair parting with the vermillion, thousands of emotions rushed in her mind.

She was no more Noor Sharma.

She was now— Noor Rivan Singh Ranawat.

She has a new life now,she had to manage everythung as 'Ghar ki badi Bahu'

She stepped down carefully, scared, adjusting her pallu as she reached the kitchen area.

Aadhya was already there.

“You’re up early, bhabhi” she said softly.

Noor gave a small nod. “I… thought I should help.”

Aadhya didn’t question her. She just moved slightly aside, giving her a smile.

“Come.”

Noor entered the kitchen.

It was busy, but not chaotic.

Servants moved around. Preparations were already in motion.

And today was different.

Today was her first rasoi.

A ritual.

A tradition.

A test in a way no one said out loud.

“Good morning beta..,” Kavita’s voice came gently from behind.

Noor turned slightly and touched her feet. Kavita blessed her, just then,Niharika also came and Noor touched her feet also. "God bless you beta .." Niharika said sweetly.

"Beta..today is your Pehli Rasoi, so don't panic, just make something sweet and that's all. Kavita said.

“Yes…”

That was all she said.

She washed her hands quietly.

Picked ingredients carefully.

Moved from one step to another without asking anything.

No unnecessary words. No hesitation in asking for attention.

Just… work.

Silent.

Focused.

From the dining area, Rivan walked in mid-way,in his shirt and pants.

He stopped near the doorway.

His gaze landed on the kitchen.

On her.

Noor was standing near the stove, completely focused. Her movements were careful, almost too careful, like she didn’t want to disturb anything around her.

She didn’t speak to anyone.

Not even when someone asked her something simple.

Just a small nod. Or silence.

Rivan observed quietly.

Not interrupting.

Not commenting.

Just watching.

Kabir noticed his gaze and smirked slightly.

“She doesn’t talk much, does she?”

Rivan didn’t respond immediately.

His eyes stayed on Noor.

Aryan glanced too.

“She’s… very quiet,” he said simply.

Rivan finally spoke.

Low.

Controlled.

“She’s always like that?”

No one answered immediately.

Aadhya, standing nearby, shrugged lightly.

“She hasn’t said more than a few sentences since yesterday.”

Silence followed that.

Rivan’s gaze didn’t move away.

Noor was carefully plating  the kheer now,her expression calm, almost unreadable.

No excitement.

No nervous chatter.

No attempt to fit in.

Just silence.

And for some reason—

it stayed in his mind longer than it should have.

Why doesn’t she speak?

The thought came without permission.

Not fear.

Not defiance.

Just… quiet.

Too quiet.

He watched as she finished plating the dish and stepped back slightly, waiting for instructions like it was natural.

Like she was used to not taking space.

That thought lingered.

Savitri came forward, inspecting the dish briefly. After a moment, she nodded once.

“It’s delicious beta,good job. Come,serve to everyone"

Noor’s expression didn’t change.

She just lowered her gaze slightly, and took the tray and moved towards the dining table.

Approval didn’t seem to reach her easily.

Or maybe she didn’t expect it to.

Rivan noticed that too.

Everyone slowly moved toward the dining table.

Noor followed silently, standing slightly behind as if unsure where she belonged.

Kavita gestured.

“Sit, Noor.”

She hesitated first, then kept the tray on table and sat.

Carefully.

At the edge.

As if trying not to disturb anything.

Rivan sat across from her.

His eyes briefly met hers.

No reaction.

No expression.

Just silence again.

But this time—

he wasn’t just observing the food.

He was observing her.

Because something about her silence didn’t feel normal.

It didn’t feel forced.

It felt… natural.

Like she had learned not to speak.

Not because she couldn’t.

But because she didn’t think she should.

And for the first time—

Rivan found himself wondering something he didn’t expect.

What kind of life makes someone this quiet?
